We have undergone a number of changes recently and are in the process of re-organizing our group.

We’d like to express our sincere thank you to our Assistant Director Sharon Stephenson for her dedication – and stepping in to take us from “here to there” after the departure of Mary Anne McFadden as our Director.

Sherry Sprague will be returning to us within just a few weeks to take over the position of Director after being away for several years with

Royal River Chorus.

Welcome Sherry and Thank You Sharon!

And now a message from our new President Kathy Cheverie:

Big Changes for the Heart of Maine Chorus of Sweet Adelines International

The Heart of Maine Chorus of Sweet Adelines International has been well known to the Bangor area for over 30 years.  This group of local women come together to sing 4 – part harmony in barbershop a capella style bringing smiles to the faces of their audiences.

“Singing keeps us young”, says chorus member Bette Cozzi, a singer in our lead section for a number of years.  There are no gaps between generations when it comes to this group.  Members range in age between 22 and 82 but all share a common love for music and harmony.

This last year has been a difficult one for this chorus with the loss of our oldest member, Florence Miller who passed away in April.  Everyone loved Florence or “Flossie” as she was called by the girls in the chorus.  “We’ll always miss her, but we know Flossie is singing in a much larger chorus now.”

The chorus is making many changes beginning with a new board of directors. Trudy Morine, long-time President has agreed to stay on as Vice President this year.  Hilma Adams has taken on the responsibilities of the Treasurer’s position. Bette Cozzi will be the new Secretary for the chorus.  Various other board positions will be filled by Jeannette MacDonald, Helena Bosse, Charlene Sirois and Gloria Hodgdon.

Ladies of the chorus feel fortunate to be adding a new interim director, Sherry Sprague.  Sherry was with this chorus a number of years ago before joining Royal River Chorus of Sweet Adelines International in southern Maine.  She came back recently in a coaching capacity while the chorus prepared for the regional competition held in Springfield, Massachusetts in April. Sherry has completed her certification as a director of a barbershop chorus with the Sweet Adelines International Organization and will be the first certified director in the history of the Heart of Maine Chorus.  We are happy to have Sherry and the knowledge she will bring to our chorus.

The Heart of Maine Chorus works constantly to improve the quality of its performance as a women’s barbershop chorus.  There are a number of past members who plan to renew their membership with this chorus and several new women have shown an interest in joining the group. So, it is onward and upward for this group of dedicated singers.  With a new board, new director, new songs, new and better learning methods, this chorus is off to a new start with fresh new ideas.  If you are a woman between the age of 18 and 90, and you like to sing, consider coming to visit at a chorus rehearsal where you can see for yourself what fun it is to learn this form of harmony singing.

See bottom of page for rehearsal times and locations or email contact.

See you soon!

Our heartfelt thanks go out to Lou H. for all his wonderful photos of us in performances.

Though he is Jeanne’s “beau,  we claim Lou as an honorary Sweet Adeline.

Lou is always thinking of us and always ready to help us with anything we need.

Here we are performing the grand finale at

one of our shows with special guests

Mainely Music Chorus and River City Harmonizers

Notice those in the above photo who are not in costume? Let’s just say “Once an Adeline, always an Adeline.”

Former members are often called up for finales when they thought they could just sit and watch.
